Ice Breaker Challenge

Kick off the New Year with one of Land O’ Sky Trout Unlimited’s most beloved traditions — the Annual Ice Breaker Challenge!

Beginning January 1, 2026, we’re once again recognizing the chapter member who lands the first trout of the year. For 2026, we’re expanding the fun to give everyone a fair shot — even those with family in town or a very enthusiastic New Year’s Eve.

Prizes

First Fish of the Year

Awarded to the chapter member who catches the first trout on January 1, 2026.
The earliest verified catch time wins.

NEW for 2026: Two Additional Prize Drawings

Two additional prizes will be awarded by random drawing to chapter members who:

  • Catch a trout anytime between January 1 and January 5, 2026, and
  • Submit a qualifying entry

Official Rules & Entry Requirements

Please review carefully — all rules must be followed for your entry to qualify.

Eligible Fish

  • The fish must be a trout
  • Fish must be caught legally, following all applicable regulations for the water fished, including:
    • Delayed Harvest
    • Hatchery Supported
    • Wild Trout waters
    • Any other applicable state or local regulations

Photo & Time Verification

  • A clear photo of the trout is required
  • The exact time the fish was landed must be provided
    • Time must be listed to the minute
  • Incomplete or unclear submissions may be disqualified

Eligibility by Prize Type


First Fish Prize

  • Fish must be caught on January 1, 2026
  • The earliest verified catch time determines the winner

Additional Prize Drawings

  • Any trout caught January 1–January 5, 2026 qualifies
  • Each eligible submission counts as one entry
  • One entry per chapter member

How to Submit Your Entry

Email the following to:

Please include:

  • Photo of the trout
  • Date caught
  • Exact time landed (to the minute)
  • Angler’s name

Submission Deadline

Friday, January 9, 2026 — 5:00 PM

All entries must be received by this deadline to be eligible.

Winner Announcement

The Ice Breaker Champion and the two additional prize winners will be announced at the January Land O’ Sky TU Chapter Meeting.
