Chapter Meetings
We are excited to welcome Kevin Howell as our guest speaker for our April 8th Chapter Meeting!
Kevin grew up immersed in fishing, traveling to 38 states and two foreign countries before college as the son of a renowned fly tier. He earned degrees in Technology and Education from Appalachian State University but left teaching to pursue his passion for fishing full-time.
In 1997, he became Manager of Davidson River Outfitters and later combined it with his family business, Dwight and Don’s Custom Tackle. A professional guide since the early ’80s, and a Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructor. A nationally recognized fly tier, he serves as the Fly-Tying Editor for Fly-Fishing the Mid Atlantic States and has had his original patterns published widely.
When not guiding or tying, he’s exploring new fishing destinations worldwide.Kevin’s talk will focus on Non-Salmonid Fly Fishing in WNC, covering the exciting world of smallmouth bass, muskie, and carp.

There is in the very haunts of the brook trout a suggestion of where it gets its vigor and wariness: the cold, clear streams where the water is pure; brooks that wind in and out over rocky and pebbly beds, here shaded by trees and there dashing through the open–it makes us feel vigorous even to think of such streams.
